Dear Dr Laura

[Author unknown to me]
Dear Dr. Laura,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L18.22> clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.
a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord ( Lev 1:9 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L1.9> ). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#E21.7> . In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness ( Lev 15:19-24 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L15.19-24> ). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
d) Lev. 25:44 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L25.44> states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?
e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#E35.2> clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination ( Lev 11:10 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L11.10> ), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?
g) Lev 21:20 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L21.20> states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L19.27> . How should they die?
i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L11.6-8> that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L19.19> by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? ( Lev 24:10-16 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L24.10-16> ) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? ( Lev. 20:14 <www-users.york.ac.uk/~ss44/joke/laura.htm#L20.14> )
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

Seen on Twitter:

1. I hate petitions

2. The Government will ignore a petition of course

3. Why is no-one signing my petition

23 years of conceding the argument

Labour concedes 95% of the argument to the Tories, Part 1: 1990 Policy document title: “Social Justice and Economic Efficiency”

The moment I clapped eyes on it, I thought, what on earth is there in that slogan that offers an alternative to the Tories? What voter or politician is against justice and efficiency, motherhood or apple pie?

Instead, how about Economic Justice [i.e. workers to reap more fully the fruits of their labour] & Social Efficiency [i.e. making the most of the talents of women, the working class, BME, etc.]

Labour concedes 95% of the argument to the Tories, Part 2: 2013 Campaign slogan: Rebuilding the economy that works for working people

With the implication that non-working people, scroungers all, can go and peer up a rope.

Yahoo Answers does politics

“Discover Questions in Politics
* Why did many Americans renege on their promise in 2012 to fight for the constitution?
* Is the white race originally from Mars? Are they the Annunaki?”

Other questions occur to me.

Headline writers get what they want: drunk teenagers having sex

Another glass-half-empty story from down under:

http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/schoolies-get-what-they-want-booze-and-risky-sex-20111112-1nd2c.html

“…most do so because they think it’s the social norm…
in a sign that the public health messages are missing their target, 24 per cent of the boys and 13 per cent of girls who had sex did not use protection.”

So, 76% of boys and 87% of girls who had sex used contraception… Elsewhere I see just 4% of the girls has sex with multiple partners.

Of course there are health concerns here, but the impression I got was responsible behaviour by the considerable majority. Most of them are getting the public health messages.

Barnardo’s are behaving like animals, say young people

In a shocking report released today, children are revealed to have very negative attitudes to Barnardo’s research.

http://www.barnardos.org.uk/news_and_events/media_centre/press_releases.htm?ref=74051
http://www.icmresearch.com/1/files/2011/11/Life-Story.pdf/

75% agreed that “The trouble with research like this is that it lacks a moral base” and 47% agreed that “Barnardo’s have gone feral”.

We found that we could get a minority of young people to agree both that “Researchers are angry and abusive” and that “Research makes me angry and abusive”.

We interviewed a couple of children that we pulled off the street and put more words into their mouths.

“It’s like they’ve given up on real research”, said one young person after some prompting. “Voodoo polls… push polls… what you said… it all gives research a bad name.”

Our investigator went on to ask: “Do you agree that Barnardo’s should show more responsibility in using language like this with the apparent sole intention of generating publicity, wasting a valuable opportunity to do some real research? I mean, aren’t these incredibly leading questions?”

“Yeah… whatever,” 100% of the other young person agreed.
